FIFA Tournament takes Daveyton by storm...

MOKONE INNOV88IONS took the township of Daveyton by storm yet again on 24 November 2018 when we hosted the much anticipated FIFA 18 Tournament at Mayfield Square, the second of its kind since the digital video gaming lab was launched at Square Internet Cafe. Seven (7) players participated in the tournament, each being represented by their preferred team from the game. Players entered the competition at a fee and the prize was "winner takes all".

The participants and the teams that represented them were:

No.: Player's Name Team
1 Sandile Mkhuma Paris-Saint Germain (PSG)
2 Joseph Matlala Barcelona FC (Barca)
3 Simon Kanhenga Juventus FC (Juve)
4 Michael Mthombeni Liverpool FC (The Reds)
5 Charles Thobejane FC Bayern Munich (Bayern)
6 Bonginkosi Mabokela Real Madrid FC (Los Blancos)
7 Bongane Mathebula Spain (La Furia Roja)
8 - ** Arsenal FC (The Gunners)
** The team was also added to the list of teams as a buffer to create an even number of teams in each group

The players were randomly drawn to compete against each other in the initial two match (home/away) knock-out round, whereafter the competition became one match knock-out. Naturally, competition was fierce and the euphoria in the room was at its peak as each player strived to outdo his opponent and in so doing secure the cash prize on offer.

The results of the fixtures were as follows: Round 1
Spain vs PSG (2-0 & 3-1)
Real Madrid vs Barcelona (draw, 1-0)
Bayern Munich vs Juventus (draw, 1-0)
Arsenal vs Liverpool (draw, 1-0)**

Semi-finals
Spain vs Real Madrid (1-0)
Arsenal vs Bayern Munich (Arsenal win from penalties)

Final
Spain vs Arsenal (1-0)

Bongane Mathebula, the Spain enthusiast, emerged the winner of the tournament, and when asked about the events of the day, his response was simply, "The match was tough!" He was nonetheless happy to have won, and he and the other players expressed that they had enjoyed the tournament and were looking forward to the next one.
